Service Description

The support workers work with the Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S) Ministry of Health and Mental Health and Addictions to operate a Métis-specific patient support program

Program offers:

  • providing information and assistance with MN–S programs and services
  • sharing information about provincial or community-based health programs, including culturally safe and traditional resources
  • collaborating with Saskatchewan Health Authority First Nations and Métis Health Services (FNMHS) patient coordinators to support discharge planning,  including arranging transportation or accommodation through the MN–S medical travel assistance program
  • listening to Métis patients and their families to ensure their needs are met, advocating on their behalf and providing translation services

  • connecting patients to Métis elders

  • ensuring patient care is culturally safe and respectful
